The Ambassador

Francesco Maria Amoruso was born on August 1, 1956, in Bisceglie (BT), the city in which he still resides, to a well-known and family of entrepreneurs.

He graduated in Political Sciences from the University of Bari with highest honors and commendation.
He is currently  director of a Business Services Company. He has been a director and board member of several companies in the fields of export, logistics, finance, and business services.

Married, he is the father of two children aged 20 and 18.

Trained in Catholic and Scouting education, he is still actively involved in voluntary social work. He is a Knight of Magisterial Grace of the SMOM, Grand Officer of the Order Pro Merito Melitensi, Grand Officer of the Order of Sts. Maurice and Lazarus, and Knight of Merit of the Constantinian Order of St. George.

On October 12, 2023, upon the proposal of the Grand Chancellor and after consulting the Sovereign Council, the Prince and Grand Master Fra’ John Dunlap decided to appoint him as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Serbia.

Following his ideal vocation and strong political passion, which had brought him to the benches of the Bisceglie City Council at a very young age, he was elected MP in the Bisceglie-Molfetta College in 1994. Since then, in the elections of 1996, 2001 and 2006, he has always been reelected.

In 2008 and 2013 he was elected to the Senate of the Republic, a position he held until 2018.

During his parliamentary terms, he held important positions such as:

⁃ President of the Committee of Italians Abroad – Chamber of Deputies 1994-1996;
⁃ Secretary of the Foreign Affairs Committee – Senate – 2008-2018;
⁃ Vice President of the IPU Delegation – Senate – 2008-2013;
⁃ President of the Parliamentary Bicameral Commission for the Control of Mandatory
Social Security and Welfare Institutions (bicameral) – 2001-2006;
⁃ Vice President of the Labor Commission – Chamber of Deputies – 2006-2008;
⁃ President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean – 2012-2014. Since the end of his parliamentary term, he has served as its President Emeritus, actively participating in all activities of the Assembly;
⁃ President of the Friendship Groups with the Scandinavian countries, Tunisia, and the Principality of Monaco.

He has also been a member of numerous International Parliamentary Bodies such as the Council of Europe, the Assembly of the Western European Union, the Parliamentary Committee for 2 Monitoring Implementation on the Schengen Agreements, Supervising the Activities of Europol and Supervising Immigration, and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

In his intense parliamentary and professional activities, he has gained a proven political diplomatic experience in economic policy development, political affairs, and international relations (particularly with regard to “parliamentary diplomacy”), succeeding in fostering lasting relations with governmental and non-governmental actors at national and international levels, using fine interpersonal skills.

He served as Honorary President of the Polish-Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Believing in Politics as ‘Service’, during his parliamentary activity there have been numerous and important initiatives undertaken in order to stimulate greater attention of Governments to the problems of Southern Italy and in particular of his land. His professional experience in the field of Foreign Trade allowed him to engage intensely in the promotion of the “Italian System” and, in particular, he introduced the bills on “Modification to the system of insurance and financing of credits inherent in the export of goods and services and the execution of works abroad” and “Reform of the National Institute for Foreign Trade,”.
