Nis, December

The last “Make a WISH to the Order of Malta” letter has arrived just in time to allow the Commission to “accept” an exception to the “Make a Wish” Regulation that provides support for young people in Serbia. To be specific, The Embassy received a letter from an 85-year-old lady. The decision was taken considering the fact that in 2019, it will be enabled not only for young people to participate in the “Make a WISH” Project but also for elderly or those who have specific and serious life and health needs.

So it was decided to anticipate the new Regulation 2019 for the end of this year and Mrs. C. G. was successfully operated (genital cancer), despite risks, by the highly qualified surgeons at the “Sava Surgery” Hospital in Nis. The operation was very delicate and complex. The team of experienced surgeons have done a great job and the patient is successfully recovering.

We would like to thank the “ManPower Group Serbia” who offered a substantial economic support ( http://www.manpower.rs/en/ ) and in particular, the Director General Aleksandar Hangimana who has shown a great human sensitivity and generous soul, in addition to his well-known brilliant managerial skills (recipient of the 2016 Young Manager of the Year Award: https://www.serbianmonitor.com/giovane-manager-2016-manpower-serbia/ ).

With this initiative we conclude the year 2018 during which we have supported a large number of children needing care and assistance, as well as help in their hard lives and we are always inspired by our “Polar Star”: Tuitio fidei et obsequium pauperum (Defence of the faith and assistance to the poor).

We would like to thank all the participants of the “Make a WISH to the Order of Malta 2019” edition: our precious collaborators of the Embassy, volunteers and generous donors – from Belgrade, Milan, Monaco, St. Paul de Vence – and we are sending the most fervent and affectionate wishes for peaceful 2019 which we hope to be full of new and ever-increasing humanitarian, medical and social activities under the flag of the Sovereign Order of Malta.

Happy New Year to everybody and Merry Orthodox Christmas!
