Belgrade, 26th January 2017
This year 2017, the Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta will, once again, stand by children. The Order will demonstrate its support through an important project titled “Make a WISH to the Sovereign Order of Malta” (please select RULE BOOK 2017 on the website homepage for further details), but also through a planned initiative in the spirit of the traditional trait of humanitarian, social and patient advocacy, characteristic for the mission of the Order of Malta and our multiannual presence in Serbia.
In fact, we shall promptly proceed with the programme “A hot meal in a cold winter”, which shall continue throughout the long Balkan winter.
At the talks held at the Embassy of the Order of Malta in Belgrade, the Ambassador Alberto di Luca and Mrs. Danijela Stajković, the director of the Shelter for Children, and her associate Mr. Nenad Vasiljević, a social worker, discussed the pace and method of implementation of this humanitarian initiative.
We shall support the Shelter for Children which takes care of the most sensitive categories of young people coming from all over Serbia, aged 7 to 18, some of whom are victims of violence, abuse and neglecting, victims of human trafficking, children deprived of parental care and/or street children.
Those are everyday dramatic and strenuous tragedies, painfully shared by many countries of our “civilised” Europe.
In its 58 years of work, the Shelter for Children took care of 80 000 children.
Recently, a Charity-Dinner was organised in Milan, thanks to the concern of Mrs. Ulrike Natus Ruggieri, attended by friends coming from Italy, France and Monaco who raised funds to aid the Shelter’s users until late spring.
