As part of the “Make a WISH to the Sovereign Order of Malta” Project, sometimes it is very delicate to assess the requests received at the Embassy. In the last example, the choice and the decision to intervene were rapid because of the difficult medical case that could no longer be postponed.
The patient (D.V.), 37 years old, was suffering from serious disease of pathologic obesity with various related problems such as insulin-dependent diabetes, hypertension and problems with the cardio-vascular system that led him to an inability to move. The patient’s condition was progressively worsening. A multidisciplinary intervention for a combined treatment was evaluated which involved a sleeve resection of the stomach and a repair of multiple hernias (inguinal, umbilical, epigastric) toghether with a cardiovascular surgery.
The expected difficult operation was perfectly performed a few weeks ago in Nis ( „Sava Surgery“ Hospital) in the presence of a multidisciplinary surgical team. Now the patient is in the phase of rapid and positive postoperative recovery.
