New Years Eve 2019

Solidarity means not forgetting others while celebrating the arrival of the new year.

Also in 2019 the Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta in Serbia will give its support – through the Project “A hot meal in a cold Winter”- to the Shelter for Children in Belgrade.

This was a promise made last October to the Director of the Center Mrs. Danijela Stajkovic, by the Ambassador Alberto di Luca and Prof. Nenad Prokic, to “donate” a winter a bit “less cold”, and some extra hot meal for many children sheltered in this humanitarian institution.

Already for 60 years, Shelter for children gives support to the most sensitive categories of young people, aged 7 to 18, coming from all over Serbia, Some of them are children deprived of parental care and street children, often victims of violence, abuse and neglecting, and in some cases victims of human trafficking.

An essential moment to support this project was the “New Year’s Eve” organized for the third time by the Ruggieri spouses – also this time in Saint Paul de Vence in France – a Charity-Gala attended by many friends from France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Principality of Monaco, and Switzerland. During the evening, the guests appreciated the masterful performances of the famous soprano Claire Coolen (already twice present in Belgrade, on the stage of the National Theater, on the occasion of our Feast St. John the Baptist, in June) singing Schubert, J.S. Bach, Johannes Brahms, GF Haendel and Giuseppe Verdi accompanied by the young talent, cellist Axel Pojaghi.

Thanks to Luigi and Ulrike Ruggeri and generosity of people present at the dinner – either physically or virtually – we will be able to support the Shelter until the next spring.

We wish a Happy New Year to children from the Shelter and to all generous supporters of our humanitarian activities!
