Celebrations in Serbia for the 1700th anniversary of the Edict of Milan

The Holy Mass was concelebrated by the Archbishop of Belgrade, H.E. Archbishop Stanislav Hocevar; was present the President of the Republic of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolic and numerous institutional and religious authorities of the country. Featured in the photograph, a relic of the Holy Cross brought as a gift from Modena to Nis.

The Holy Father Francis, on the occasion of the solemn celebrations in Serbia of the 1700th anniversary of the Edict of Milan-promulgated by the Emperor Constantine born in Nis, Serbia – has sent as his special envoy His Eminence Cardinal Angelo Scola, Archbishop of Milan. In his homily during the religious ceremony celebrated in Nis, Cardinal Scola said that “the proclamation of peace is the good news we are waiting for. Peace is the possibility of unity among men. Peace that Jesus gives us is forgiveness of our sins, reconciliation with God and with men”. And he underlined that “the 1700th anniversary of the Edict of Milan tells us all that religious freedom is a guarantee of peace and new civilizations.”
