“Antun Gustav Matos” Foundation and Croatian cultural center in Belgrade
The Sovereign Order of Malta in its thousand-year history has always paid great attention to culture as well. In our “modest“ way, the Embassy to the Republic of Serbia gladly supports cultural initiatives or institutions. Our National Day of St. John’s – apart from year 2020 and 2021, because of Covid – is a cultural event that we have been celebrating on the Belgrade opera stage for many years, with the most important operas.
We were recently informed that the Government of the Republic of Serbia has assigned a space to the “Antun Gustav Matos” Foundation which is shared by the “Croatian Cultural Center” (this is the apartment where the late Prime Minister of Serbia, Zoran Djindjic lived) . The Foundation is named after the famous Croatian poet Antun Gustav Matos, who spent most of his life in Belgrade and is considered a symbol of the rapprochement between the two nations.
Located in the center of Belgrade, this space is very suitable for various cultural activities but it was completely unequipped. So when we received the request to partially equip that space, it seemed compatible with the “Make a WISH” project of the Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta.
We agreed with the Director of the Foundation, Mrs. Katica Naglić, on priority needs to meet at least one.
With this WISH, we accompany our sincere wishes to the Foundation for successful work.
