Belgrade, March 30th, 2016
The Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta in Belgrade has decided to support, during the winter of 2015/2016, the facility “Shelter for children” which has been operating in Belgrade for over 57 years and welcomes children aged between 7 and 18 years, often orphaned, abandoned in the streets, victims of psychological and physical violence and of human trafficking. Immense human tragedies that unite painfully many countries in our “civilized” Europe.
The aid program was to expire on March 30th, but because of the situation of the children, the generosity of some donors has allowed it to continue until April 30th. The news that Ambassador di Luca announced today to the children, housed at the Shelter, and to the Director, Mrs. Danijela Stojkovic, has generated a spontaneous and heartfelt applause. Some of the children, in a very good English, wanted to personally thank the Embassy for it has done for them, and even proposed to make a drawing of the eight-pointed Cross in memory of today.
