Belgrade, March 7
This year, the Embassy of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the Republic of Serbia wants to give even more attention to the needy children, especially to the orphans and the unwell.
For this reason the Ambassador Alberto di Luca and First Counsellor Carlo Buora went today to the “Shelter for children” of Belgrade to hear directly from the kids that are housed and its Director Danjela Stojkovic, how the initiative “A hot meal in a cold winter” is progressing.
The Embassy has decided to support, during the winter of 2015/2016, this facility that’s been operating in Belgrade for 57 years and welcomes children aged between 7 and 18 years, often orphaned, abandoned in the streets, victims of psychological and physical violence and of human trafficking.
Immense human tragedies that unite painfully many countries in our “civilized” Europe.
Together with the managers of the shelter was discussed the possibility of a large shipment from Italy of food and clothing, offered by the Embassy of the Order, from the chain of supermarkets Esselunga.
Unfortunately, the rigid and complicated bureaucratic rules, passed experience, even combined with certain unwilling attitudes to facilitate the work of foreign donors, are creating difficulties for the realization of this important beneficial action for the children.
Next week the director of the Shelter, along with a manager of the Embassy, will meet with the municipal authorities to try to give the expected positive outcome to the generous donation.
